How does image compression work?
The tool reads your images locally, optionally resizes them, then encodes new files with the selected quality and format. Original files are not overwritten.
Which image formats are supported?
Input: JPEG, JPG, HEIC, HEIF, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, and TIFF. Files are identified by contents, not only by name. Animated GIFs use the first frame. Multipage TIFFs use the first page. All output is a still image. HEIC and HEIF are decoded locally and are never uploaded. SVG is not supported.
Which output formats are supported?
JPEG is small and widely compatible, with no transparency. WebP is small and can keep transparency. PNG is lossless and can keep transparency, but may produce a larger file.
What quality setting should I use?
Medium is the default and is a practical balance of size and detail. High keeps more detail. Low makes smaller files. Quality applies to JPEG and WebP output, not to PNG. JPEG output flattens transparency onto white.
Does PNG use the Quality setting?
No. PNG output is lossless, so Quality is disabled for that format.
Does resizing reduce file size?
Usually yes. Reducing the maximum width is often the largest saving, especially for photos from phones.
Will the image keep its aspect ratio?
Yes. Width is limited by the selected maximum, height scales with it, and images are never enlarged.
Can I compress multiple images at once?
Yes. Choose up to 20 images. They share the same quality, maximum width, and output format. One invalid file does not cancel the rest of the batch.
How many images can I compress at once?
Up to 20 images per batch.
Can I download all compressed images together?
Yes. When two or more images compress successfully, Download ZIP saves them locally as compressed-images.zip. Failed files are not included.
Does IngoHub upload my image?
No. Images are compressed locally in your browser and are not uploaded to IngoHub.
Are my images uploaded?
No. Compression stays in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.
Does compression remove EXIF metadata?
The compressed file is created from the visible image on a canvas. It does not copy the original EXIF metadata into the download.
Why is my compressed image sometimes larger?
Re-encoding, especially to PNG, can produce a larger file. The tool still shows the result and does not hide a size increase.
Are animated GIFs preserved?
No. Animated GIFs are compressed from the first frame as a still image. Animation is not preserved.
Can I compress GIF, SVG, or HEIC?
GIF and HEIC can be compressed locally. Animated GIFs become a still image from the first frame. HEIC and HEIF are decoded in the browser and are not uploaded. SVG is not supported in this version.
