How it works

BMI compares weight with height using a standard mathematical formula. Enter your measurements and the calculator updates automatically. When US units are selected, the calculator converts the measurements appropriately before calculating the result.

Metric Formula

BMI=
weight (kg)height² (m)

Example

HEIGHT175 cm=1.75 m
WEIGHT70 kg
BMI =70÷(1.75 × 1.75)
=22.86

Questions

How is BMI calculated?

BMI is calculated by dividing weight in kilograms by height in meters squared.

What BMI range is considered healthy for adults?

For adults age 20 and older, a BMI between 18.5 and 24.9 is considered the standard healthy weight range.

How is the healthy-weight range calculated?

The calculator applies the standard healthy BMI boundaries (18.5 and 24.9) backwards against your height to provide a realistic target range.

Can I use feet, inches and pounds?

Yes. US is selected by default, so you can enter feet, inches, and pounds. Choose Metric to enter centimetres and kilograms.

Why can BMI be useful but incomplete?

BMI is a quick population-level screening tool, but it does not account for body composition, muscle mass, bone density, or age, meaning it cannot determine individual health by itself.

Is BMI interpreted the same way for children and teenagers?

No. Adult BMI categories are not interpreted the same way for younger demographics. This calculator is intended for adults age 20+.

Does IngoHub store my measurements?

No. Your height and weight entries remain entirely in your browser and are not saved, stored, or sent to our servers.
